For the engaged globalist, the Orcas Island community is surprisingly accessible. It is within a one-hour seaplane flight, door to door, from downtown Seattle, and daily commercial service is scheduled throughout the year. Orcas Island is a mere puddle jump to Bellingham International Airport, where large private jets can easily land and from which a growing number of commercial flights are available to routine locales in business and vacation destinations. In addition, routine ferry service is available for island hopping from Anacortes to Victoria, BC.  The San Juan Archipelago is the gateway to the Pacific Ocean, and the international metropolis of Vancouver, BC is readily accessible for work or play. The nearby Rosario Resort offers convenient moorage and marina services, and Seattle is one of the world’s premier yacht basins.

The Pacific Northwest has long been a world technology leader as the birthplace of Boeing, Microsoft and Amazon, and a talent center for Google, Facebook and a host of other world leaders. A home on Orcas Island places potential residents within day meeting distance of Vancouver, BC, Seattle, Portland and San Francisco. Although incredibly private and ensconced by natural beauty, this is a community that remains directly connected to the world pulse. A home here is also easy to justify, as Washington is one of only a few states that has no state income taxes.
